#loweclass Covers the 2012 Presidential Election
#loweclass is comprised of students from classes taught by Herbert Lowe, the journalism professional in residence at the Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Two of his classes are scheduled to meet on Tuesdays during the fall 2012 semester.
Five students are in #loweclass #elections – a seminar that focuses on how the media cover major campaigns and elections, in particular, the battle for the 2012 presidential election and the U.S. senate campaign in Wisconsin. Ten students are in #loweclass #sports – a seminar class focusing on how the media report on professional and amateur sports. The students in both classes are maintaining blogs, live tweeting campus events and creating Storifys. The elections class is also making class presentations on other hotly contested elections of national interest as well as traditionally significant campaign issues, while the sports class is making class presentations on major sports-related issues and how sports journalism use social media. This is the first #loweclass attempt at live blogging and using CoveritLive. The student journalists are each contributing a minimum of 75 minutes worth of reporting during Election Day – Nov. 6, 2012 – from polling sites for residences halls, university apartments and residences near Marquette's campus. |
