I loved how journalism educators from elsewhere and Marquette students following me on Twitter and Facebook responded to Michelle's offerings as I was tweeting. Definitely demonstrating the power of curating social media.
This is my next Storify, about Michelle Michael, the 2010 National Press Photographers Association's Solo Journalist of the Year, and her presentation to Diederich College of Communication faculty on Day 3 of a weeklong Platypus workshop in which we learned to shoot high-quality video and edit it with Apple's new Final Cut Pro X.

What a privilege for the Diederich faculty. Perhaps someday she could back come to campus and speak to students as well? I think many communication students would appreciate it. It seems like Platypus was a highly beneficial program as a whole.

I thought your Storify conveyed both what you liked about her presentation and her career. At first I was afraid you would only include your own tweets, but at the end you featured other voices. Saving tweets from Eckchai, students and other faculty actually made the story more organized.

I was confused about what #muplatypus was this summer when I received your tweets, but now I understand how this program helped the faculty and college.

Reading this over the summer I thought it was great that you were gaining all of this experience. I enjoyed being included in your storify and can't wait to learn how to better utilize my social media skills from you this fall.

Michelle Michael's words of wisdom resonate with me after reading this Storify. Hiding behind good characters who make good stories, gaining trust, and being a good planner all contribute to her success as a video journalist. I am not surprised she showed rather than told the audience of her work. This mantra holds truth to print journalism as well, to show the reader, rather than tell them.

I can't imagine how hard she must work to put out solo projects for a living. This summer, I had to do a few solo projects for my internship and those few days I spent working on them were just exhausting.
